About This Experience

The Journey

The Yarra Valley doesn’t announce itself. It arrives quietly — suburban Melbourne giving way to rolling hills, then vineyards, then silence. By the time you reach the first winery, the city feels like it belongs to another lifetime.

Your host has relationships here. Not trade accounts — friendships. The winemaker at your first stop comes out personally because they know your host by name. The tasting happens in the barrel room, not the tourist cellar door. Cool-climate Pinot Noir straight from barrel. Chardonnay that tastes like the morning fog that settles in this valley every autumn.

The second winery offers something different — a contrasting producer exploring different varietals and terroir. Your palate begins to understand what the Yarra Valley actually means: not one flavour, but a conversation between soil, climate, and the obsessive humans who tend the vines.

Then Pt Leo Estate — and this is where the day becomes unforgettable. Lunch is at one of Australia’s most breathtaking winery restaurants, set on 330 acres overlooking Western Port Bay. Three courses. Wine pairing chosen by the sommelier. The chef uses produce from the estate’s own gardens. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the bay shimmers silver and blue.

After lunch, the Sculpture Park. Sixteen acres. Over sixty monumental works by Australian and international artists. You walk through a landscape where art and nature have become inseparable — a towering Jaume Plensa head gazes across the water, a KAWS figure stands in a paddock of wildflowers. It’s one of the most important private sculpture collections in the Southern Hemisphere, and most visitors to Melbourne have never heard of it.

The return drive climbs Arthur’s Seat for panoramic views across Port Phillip Bay to the Melbourne skyline — a city that suddenly looks very small from up here.
